As World War 2 took hold in Europe, Guila and her mother settled in Nazi-controlled Paris. The young star continued to perform throughout Axis territories during the war. She claimed later in life to have performed a concert at which Adolf Hitler himself was present.

The White House Milk Company, once located at 102 Revere Drive in Manitowoc was once among the largest producers of evaporated milk in the country. The plant was reported to be able to process a million pounds of milk in a day and crank out 500 cans of evaporated milk per minute.

“They were out to get us at all costs. From my post in the wheelhouse, there were many close calls form Jap bombs that came hurling down on the carrier from the Jap planes. Two of three times it seemed as if I could almost reach out and touch some of the bombs as they dropped past our station”, recalled Manitowoc’s Edward Aschenbrenner of the sinking of the USS Lexington during World War II. Edward was 24 years old when he was a wheelmen on the U.S. aircraft carrier Lexington when it sank during Battle of the Coral Sea in 1942.

We, as Americans have much to be proud of. As citizens of a democracy, we enjoy freedom from oppression, the privilege to elect our leaders, and a quality of life that most of the world could only dream of.

The Second World War was a time of great national unity and patriotism. For a short time of this era, the eyes of the nation fell upon the small city of Manitowoc, along the shores of Lake Michigan.

On Tuesday evening, December 22, 1942 hundred of children and adults filled the Town Hall meeting room at WOMT Radio, located on Washington Street in Manitowoc. The party, created for children whose families resided in the Custerdale defense housing, was sponsored by the Custerdale Citizens' Club. The entertainment included the crowning of Florence Teegarden as "queen of the festivities" and a visit from Santa Claus who distributed a present to each child. Part of the Christmas party program was broadcast over WOMT.

"For 14 of the bloodiest days in history [Andrew] Miller taught the world to do the impossible. He proved to the 'brass' of a dozen armies that the fury and fighting spirit of the American soldier is the most unconquerable weapon of war the universe has ever seen”, described an article in the 95th Infantry Division's November 1964 edition of "Journal" Magazine."
