History Detectives:
Themed Field Trip
Thursday, February 27 from 10 am - 2 pm
Let’s figure out a history mystery!
Dear Detective,
I hear you’re ready to get to work. And not a moment too soon. We’ve got a case at our local history museum and we need you to get right on it. The historians there are stumped. They have a bunch of unidentified artifacts on their hands. Big things, small things, heavy things, light things. The folks at the museum don’t know how or why any of them were used.
Upon arrival, your group will be given a mystery to solve. As you move through various stations, you will be given clues and resources to use to help answer your mystery. Take on the role of a history detective (museum archivist) and help solve the history mystery!
As part of this field trip you will:
Get a greater understanding about different behaviors and rules for different types of museums. There are many different types of museums - children’s museums, public museums, historic houses, and historical societies - and living history museums. Learn the different behaviors required for various museums and how history museums collect and preserve treasured artifacts.
Learn how museums collect items and why preservation of items is important.
What is a primary source? What items do historians use to help answer questions?
What can items of the past tell us about the people, places, and events of long ago?
Take part in a scavenger hunt to find special items.
